You can see why Pipevine and Dutchman's Pipe are common names for this plant. The flower looks like an old-fashioned pipe.

The pipevine flowers have an odor that attracts insects. It was previously thought that the insects were then trapped and eaten by the plant. Further study, however, showed that most insects eventually make it out of the flower--carrying out some pollen with them.

I thought this flower was interesting in that the red and yellow on the flower opening seemed to be a reverse of the usual color scheme.

Some kind of insect damage on this flower, I believe.
